Press realease for Angels And Airwaves' "Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker"

Los Angeles, CA (October 6, 2014) — Angels & Airwaves (AVA) have teamed with Rolling Stone for the premiere of “Paralyzed,” the first track from the band’s much-anticipated new album, The Dream Walker. Click here to listen.

“Paralyzed,” a sneak preview of the album, hits iTunes tomorrow, but can be pre-ordered here. “Lyrically, the song is about sleep paralysis,” DeLonge told Rolling Stone. “I think we needed something that would turn heads and ignite a fan base of post-hardcore-punk-rock kids that might still be lingering there from my earlier years.”

Scheduled for a December release, The Dream Walker was written, recorded and produced by Angels & Airwaves’ frontman/guitarist Tom DeLonge and multi-instrumentalist Ilan Rubin, known for his work with Nine Inch Nails. The album was recorded at Jupiter Sound in San Diego, CA, and mixed by Aaron Rubin, Tom Lord Alge and Alan Moulder.

The Dream Walker sees DeLonge and Rubin fleshing out fictional character Poet Anderson, an orphan living in Seattle who learns to control his dreams and nightmares, which in turn affects his waking world. Against a stunning backdrop of abstract electronics, liquefied guitar lines and hard, hypnotic beats, DeLonge tells an epic tale of identity, love and revenge.

The Dream Walker follows AVA’s last two albums, Love (2010) and Love: Part Two (2011), which together created a thematic mosaic on human consciousness. DeLonge enhanced the album experience with a companion film, which was scored by Angels & Airwaves and investigated the psychological effects of isolation when an astronaut stranded in space learns the importance of human connection and love. The critically acclaimed Love movie was screened at festivals around the world and then brought directly to fans in over 460 theatres nationwide via a one-night-only live event, which broadcasted the movie, followed by a live concert and Q&A with Tom.

DeLonge is expanding his vision with The Dream Walker, which will be amplified with the addition of an animated short film, comic book series, novels and a live-action feature film. Several of these elements will arrive in 2015, which also happens to be the 10-year anniversary of Angels & Airwaves’ formation.

“I always envisioned AVA as more than just a band,” says DeLonge. “I saw it as a transmedia storytelling experience, an art project, exploring larger themes that touched on human behavior. We’ve tried to further the ambition of the band with each project and with The Dream Walker, I feel that we’ve taken things to an entirely new level.”

Initially known for his work with multi-platinum rock band Blink-182, DeLonge formed AVA in 2005. Over the course of the past nine years, AVA has released four studio albums: 2006’s gold-certified We Don’t Need to Whisper; 2007’s I-Empire, which rocketed into the Top 10 of The Billboard 200; 2010’s free downloadable album, Love (the band gave away a million downloads of the album) and 2011’s Love Pt 2.
