Feeding America San Diego is one of San Diego County's largest food banks, distributing over 1.5 million pounds of nutritious food each month to hungry families thoughout San Diego. A few weeks ago members of the band Angels and Airwaves came out to see a BackPack Program distribution at Lexington Elementary school in El Cajon. Together with the help of US Navy volunteers they distributed 616 bags of food to students. The BackPack program serves nearly 2,600 students per week at 17 schools throughout San Diego County. Some of the students at these schools do not have enough food to eat at home and sometimes go the whole weekend without a meal until they return to school where the meals are provided by the school.
