So I interviewed Tom DeLonge, formally of Blink-182 and now Angels & Airwaves, for a magazine feature I’m doing. The latter have a new album due imminently. It’s called Lifeforms and it’s very good - less proggy than they’ve been on their five albums prior, more pop, more punk. But Tom is also one of the most prominent names in ufology – his aerospace, science and entertainment company To The Stars is arguably the tumbling boulder that has led to a conversation about UFO’s - or UAP’s as they appear to have been rebranded in an attempt to remove some of the stigma of what’s long been viewed as pseudoscience – in the mainsteam, in a way that is quite unlike anything I’ve witnessed in my lifetime so far.
I’m fascinated by all that stuff. UFO’s, ghosts, Bigfoot, the unexplained; I’ve written about it a fair bit myself, and I’ve always been inspired by the way Tom has poked his fingers into pies, made his passions his existence, and I’ve always, always wanted to interview him. I did keep back most of our interview for that forthcoming magazine feature... but there was enough elsewhere that I can share here now. Hope you like it.
Tom DeLonge joins us via Zoom to chat through the new album from Angels & Airwaves, Lifeforms, featuring the singles Euphoria, Losing My Mind and Restless Souls. He tells us why he believes this record contains some of his best work to date, why they chose that particular album title and reflects on the journey of the band, fifteen years on from their debut We Don't Need To Whisper. Plus, live show plans and his thoughts on his impact as a songwriter, from Blink-182 to Box Car Racer and beyond.
Marty & Danielle sit down for some James Coffee Co. and donuts alongside Tom Delonge and David Kennedy from Angels And Airwaves!
They chat about the incredible coffee company David built (the aforementioned James Coffee Co.), early Angels & Airwaves material, music in the year 2021, and a host of other topics.
